Parachuting injuries: a follow-up communication.

چکیده
From 1981 to 1985, 193 611 sport parachute jumps were made in the Netherlands of which 267 were reported to have resulted in injury; a detailed report was presented in this journal by Steinberg'. The present communication reports on the results of a follow-up study of that report, based on questionnaires and radiological data. Attention was paid to the accuracy of the types of the reported injuries, the injury distribution, the injury mechanisms, absenteeism from work and to persisting complaints. A total of 79 questionnaires representing 83 injuries were returned and evaluated; 40 of these, representing 44 injuries, were related to radiographs. Generally, the types of injury agreed with the layman injury reports. The injury distribution in this follow-up study was similar to that of the primary report. Of the 83 injuries, 74 (89%) were fractures. Ankle, lower leg and vertebral fractures (42%, 15% and 12% respectively) were most frequent. The most frequently diagnosed type of ankle fracture was Weber B (35.5%). The majority of the reported so-called 'splint-bone' (fibular) fractures represented ankle fractures, as was already surmised in the primary report.

متن کاملMilitary parachuting injuries: a literature review.
This article is a literature review of the aspects of military parachuting related to occupational medicine and focuses on 'conventional' military static line parachuting using a round parachute. The analysis of injuries resulting from military parachuting provide an excellent example of military occupational medicine practice. The techniques of military parachuting are described in order to il...
متن کاملPreventing Injuries Associated with Military Static-line Parachuting Landings
Military static-line parachuting is a highly tactical and hazardous activity, with a well-documented injury risk. Due to the high impact forces and rapid rate of loading when a parachutist lands, injuries most frequently occur to the lower limbs and the trunk/spine, with ankle injuries accounting for between 30 and 60 % of all parachuting injuries. Although military static-line parachuting inju...
متن کاملSystematic review of the parachute ankle brace: injury risk reduction and cost effectiveness.
INTRODUCTION Military parachuting has been shown to result in injuries. This investigation systematically reviewed studies examining the influence of the parachute ankle brace (PAB) on injuries during military parachuting and performed a cost-effectiveness analysis. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION Parachute ankle brace studies were obtained from seven databases, personal contacts, and other sources. Inv...
متن کاملFollow-Up Visits in Doctor-Patient Communication: The Vietnamese Case
In a “follow-up visit”, a patient seeks medical attention for an existing health problem. Using data from the Vietnamese public hospital system, we present a more nuanced analysis of follow-ups in health communication than the one currently available. To be specific, we discriminate between “same follow-ups”, in which the doctor is the same one as in the last visit, and “different follow-ups”, ...
